States News Journal

Editorial Policy

This editorial policy explains how States News Journal researches, dates, reviews and corrects its state tax, wage and refund content. We follow it for every page.

Sources we use

We rely on primary sources first: state revenue and labor agencies, statutes, and the US Department of Labor. We use recognized research groups, such as the Tax Foundation, when a primary source does not summarize all states in one place. Every table links to its source.

How we date our data

Each table and article shows when we last checked the figures. If a source changes, we update the figure and the date together. We never show a date unless we have re-checked the data.

How we review and update

We re-check rates and wages on a regular schedule and again after major legislative changes. We review refund links to confirm they point to the official agency page.

Corrections

We fix confirmed errors promptly and update the check date. Read our full corrections policy. To report a problem, use our contact page and include an official source link. See also our list of data sources.

Tools and automation

Our editors may use software tools to organize data and draft text. A human editor reviews every figure before publication.

Independence and advertising

Advertising or affiliate links, if we add them, never change our data or rankings. We label sponsored content clearly.

Yes. We link to the state agency, statute or federal source for each figure whenever one exists.

What if two sources disagree?

We prefer the official agency source and note the difference when it matters.

Do you give tax advice?

No. Our content is general information. Read our disclaimer.

How do I request a correction?

Contact us with the state, the figure and an official link. We verify the report and update the page.
